Chief Residents' Message
A reflection from the 2025-2026 Chief Residents
Dear applicants,
We are SO excited to introduce you to the Psychiatry Residency Program at Northwestern! Over the last few years, this program has become our home and the foundation for our future.
We work with a diverse patient population and gain exposure to a wide range of psychiatric conditions in a vibrant urban setting. Training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA gives us the opportunity to serve individuals from all walks of life across Chicago and neighboring communities.
Our faculty bring a wide range of interests including neuropsychiatry, addictions, neuromodulation, LGBTQ+ mental health, and more, and our residents work closely with them in both clinical care and scholarly or quality improvement projects. Many recent graduates have chosen to stay at Northwestern or in the Chicago area, while others have pursued fellowships and careers across the country.
Throughout residency, we support one another and value the importance of having fun at work while delivering exceptional care. We’d love to share more about what it means to be a psychiatry resident at Northwestern—and we hope you’ll consider joining us.
Warmly,
Leigh Berman, MD
Gaya Archer, MD
Anne Nielsen, MD
